somatic & HOLISTIC therapy

What is somatic psychotherapY?

To create lasting change, we need to move beyond complaining about our problems. Expressing our feelings, sharing stories of pain and shame is healing and relieving, but often we need more.

We will focus  on  the mind and body connection. Our body is full of energy and wisdom. Our body is our ally. Yet often after trauma, our body can feel like our enemy. Our body may sabotage us with panic attacks, chronic fatigue, flashbacks, and destructive habit patterns. To live a life we love, we need to rebuild trust with our body. We also need energy to participate fully in life.  Therefore, somatic therapy focuses on embodied practices to release stored tension and strengthen our nervous system.

What are embodied practices exactly? There are a plethora of ways to practice embodiment. Angela generally starts her clients with guided body meditations to develop sensory awareness. We must learn to FEEL our emotions. Then we practice releasing and moving the energy through breathwork, movement, and sounding. These somatic practices have created radical, powerful, lasting change in Angela's life.

If you're curious to understand the WHY behind your symptoms, you're in luck. Ang is a nerd and would love to give you a reading list.  We will discuss the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, window of tolerance, hyperarousal, hypoarousal, and so much more.
